Effective immediately and until further notice, the Erie County Auditor’s Office staff will be available from 8:30am-12pm on Fridays and 8am-4pm Monday-Thursday. The building is still closed to the public. All transfers on Fridays, including but not limited to e-filings, will ONLY be accepted until 11:30am without exception. If you have any questions or concerns please call our office at 419-627-7746 Monday -Thursday 8am-4pm and Fridays 8:30am-12pm.

The Erie County Recorder will temporarily provide document images on their website.

The Erie County Recorder has temporarily provide document images on their website ( due to limited access to the office. Deeds are indexed through 1983 and Mortgages through 1985. Other document types will vary.

eRecording has started in Erie County!(Joint effort by the Erie County Recorder’s and the Erie County Auditor and offices)

What is eRecording?

Electronic Document Recording is a method of delivering and returning documents electronically from a submitter’s office to the recorder and auditor. eRecording can be an option for Title Companies, Law Firms, Banks, and other business that record documents on a regular basis today. The actual recording of the document is still done by the Recorder in their software system. Recorded documents are returned electronically. The Auditor’s office now accepts conveyance and exempt Real Estate transfers through the eRecording process.

Benefits of eRecording:

  • Helps to reduce the time from submission to return of documents, from 3-5 days to within minutes or hours of the initial submission
  • Save time, money and resources normally spent on document packaging, delivery & return
  • Reduce rejections and document & payment errors.
  • No cutting and processing checks. Payment of recording & eRecording fee is handled electronically.
  • Enhance document tracking & security
  • Helps with industry best practice compliance.

We currently have three eRecording vendors that offer these services that can be used in submitting the documents electronically.

March 1-7 Named Weights and Measures Week

Erie County Ohio – Every day, Erie County residence pay for consumer products based on a weight or measurement, like a gallon of gas or a pound of meat. The Erie County Auditor’s Office Division of Weights and Measures Program is responsible for ensuring those measurements are correct so that consumers get what they pay for. To recognize this important work, Richard H. Jeffrey Auditor and Jeff P. Fantozzi Deputy Inspector have issued a proclamation declaring March 1–7 as Weights and Measures Week in Erie County.

“Whether you are pumping gas at the station or weighing your produce at the grocery store, the department’s Weights and Measures inspectors are there working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure you are protected and getting exactly what you paid for.” “Weights and Measures Week is a great time to recognize the important work of our inspectors and thank them for ensuring fairness in commercial transactions of anything sold by weight, measure, or count around the state.”

The theme for this year’s Weights and Measures Week is “Building Weights and Measures’ Future by Sharing Our Knowledge.” This theme emphasizes the importance of the cooperation of weight and measures programs and inspectors from around the country; the value in sharing the story of weights and measures programs to consumers; and the need for continued training opportunities in this ever-changing field.

Erie County’s Weights and Measures Program inspects 2379 weighing and measuring devices in commercial use at businesses around the county. In 2019, field staff conducted inspections of commercial weighing and measuring devices, including: cash registers; deli scales; shipping scales; large truck scales; fuel pumps; meters to measure home heating oil and propane; and many other devices. The department also inspected individual lots of pre-packaged commodities offered for sale and investigated numerous consumer complaints, the majority of which were related to gasoline sales.

New Stickers for Fuel Tax

A new red sticker will soon be required at the Gas Station. Gas Station owners have the option to have it on the pumps, post it on video screens or in a prominent place. These stickers itemize the taxes included in the price of a gallon of fuel in order to inform the consumer and are required by the last year’s state transportation budget, which also raised the state tax on gasoline by 10.5 cents per gallon on July 1, 2019. The diesel fuel tax increased by 19 cents per gallon. Proceeds from the fuel tax are used to maintain and upgrade Ohio’s roads and bridges. The stickers were created and paid for by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

The stickers will be affixed by the County Auditor’s office during routine inspections conducted by Weights and Measures Inspector, Jeff Fantozzi. Fuel tax stickers must be in place in each county and city jurisdiction by September, 2020. Stickers will be updated with any future changes to the gas tax.
